DIRECTOR’S NOTE
Any acting instructor will tell you that acting creates connections. Acting is more than just reaction or a performance for an audience. It is about reading your partners, building trust, and allowing for moments of vulnerability. To grow as an actor, you have to let down your closely guarded defensive postures and allow for a kind of bonding that is not typical in everyday life. Actors, whether they are in an acting class or in a production together, form bonds. And those bonds, whether they last only for the duration of a play or a course, are very real. In that brief time, for better or worse, these people hold a powerful influence in your life.
This play shows the intersection of five lives over the course of a community center acting class that meets once a week over a six-week period. They have all come for different reasons and will all leave having taken something unique to each of them. But they will leave as changed individuals. And they are changed because of the bonds they forged and sometimes severed in this brief connective moment.
